Early this year Ford’s Derrick Kuzak let it slip that Ford would be offering a performance version of the new 2012 Ford Focus. He stated that for the first time a global performance vehicle would be shared with the United States. We will have what Europe has been getting for years in a high-powered small car.
That of course got all of us in the SVT enthusiast community abuzz, asking will it be called SVT when it comes here? And how much power? Will we get the RS?
Today we have some of those answers from Ford’s Paris Motor Show preview. The 2012 Ford Focus ST you see in the photos here will be coming to the United States by this time next year. With SVT now being run globally, known as ST in Europe, the vehicle has been designed and engineered to be a world-wide product.
Choosing to keep the name ST for America because it is a global performance model, this may cause some confusion with SVT enthusiasts. But Ford tells us that ST and SVT are one in the same when it comes to who is designing and building the cars. So don’t despair.
The good news is that the new top dog 2012 Ford Focus ST will have a 250hp turbocharged EcoBoost four under the hood. With what Ford says in an addictive sound, the new ST will have all the go-fast bits that the Focus SVT owners have pined for in the past six years.
Larger wheels, brakes and an aggressive suspension underneath will give the Focus razor sharp handling. In the cabin are some very special leather trimmed sport seats, steering wheel, shifter and door trims
Outside the 2012 Ford Focus ST has unique body cladding, front and rear fascias and a substantial rear spoiler. Unique and sure to get attention is the hot looking center exhaust. We have to say it looks like a hot little package.
Pricing and final specifications will be announced early next year.
